“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
Benjamin Franklin
Philosophy of Teaching
It is my desire as an educator to help my students become the; “BEST THAT THEY CAN BE”! Every child will have varying interests, socio-economic means, cultural backgrounds, learning styles, beliefs and passions. The common ground between all students is they all have the right to succeed through a quality education. As teachers, we have the ever important responsibility to provide experiences and environments in which children feel safe thereby allowing each child to reach their maximum potential. I strive to assist in creating classrooms that celebrate differences by forming communities of mutual respect and identity. I strive to foster an environment that helps to further develop students physically, emotionally and socially through guidance and mentorship. The students acquire knowledge through discovery and natural curiosity.
Authentic learning is very important to children; lessons must connect to their level of understanding. Children grasp concepts through hands on learning and the freedom to discover in a safe and nurturing environment. My practice encompasses modeling, exploration, natural curiosity and discovery to guide students in gaining a stronger understanding of the world around them.
It is my belief that students need to be actively involved in the educational process and feel ownership over their learning. All students must learn to set goals, reflect upon their work and develop strategies to meet their goals, generate ideas and share knowledge through “real life experiences”. Students are easier to motivate when they have pride in their accomplishments and these accomplishments are celebrated. I know it is very important for them to understand:
Where they are now...
Where they need to be…
How to develop personal strategies to get there…
I work hard to develop classrooms that meet the needs of all individuals through continued authentic assessment (both formative and summative), reflection of daily planning and tailoring when needed. I fully understand when it comes to education “one size does not fit all”. I am one hundred percent committed to meeting the needs of each student and helping him/her achieve success in their educational endeavors.
